You Tell on Yourself

"You Tell on Yourself"
by Elizabeth George

You tell on yourself by the friends you seek,
By the very manner in which you speak,

By the way you employ your leisure time,...
By the use you make of a dollar and dime.

You tell what you are by the things you wear,
By the spirit in which you burdens bear,

By the kind of things at which you laugh,
By the records you play on the phonograph.

You tell what you are by the way you walk,
By the things of which you delight to talk,

By the manner in which you bear defeat,
By so simple a thing as how you eat.

By the books you choose from the well-filled shelf:
In these ways and more, you tell on yourself.

Religion vs. the Gospel

A list of thought provoking quotes:

Faith is not primarily a function of how you feel.  Faith is living out and believing what truth is despite what you feel.

Consumer-driven churches don't attract genuine seekers.  Real seekers look for reality, not tailor-made religion; truth, not a product.

No one lives up to even his or her own moral standards.  If we fall short of our own standards, what will we do before God's?

Jesus a recycled redeemer?  What other person shows up in historical documents with such regularity who later turned out to be rehashed myth?

You must have some idea what you are worshiping in order to worship God in a meaningful way.

You are more sinful than you could ever dare imagine and you are more loved and accepted than you could ever dare hope-at the same time.

The world’s peace is intermittent based on transitory circumstances.  Christian peace is constant based on the never changing love of God.

Religion makes us proud of what we have done.  The Gospel makes us proud of what Jesus has done.
