Sweet Joys in Life

One of my favorite ways of spending time is the discussions I have with my family about God, His word, and simple and meaningful topics that are innocent.  Sometimes we cook meals together (the kitchen is where you will usually find us!) while making silly jokes or singing which results in much laughter.  Our sense of humor is innocent which seems so uncommon these days.  I think the fact that we don't have regular television or cable really plays a role in what we find humorous.  We all agree that most of what is on TV really is junk and will only lead to a desensitized view of sin, an interest in that which is time consuming and often mindless, and a disinterest in what really matters (such as reading, studying the Bible, and even studying Atheistic writings or other religions to learn how they differ from Christianity and what they believe.  This is beneficial because it gives you insight into the worldview and beliefs of other religions so if the opportunity presents itself to speak with someone who is an Atheist or of another belief system, you will be better prepared to answer any questions they have or ask them questions as well.  Believe it or not, people who are not Christian actually appreciate when a Christian brings up the topic of religion with them.  Especially when a Christian is a thinking person; an intellectual, who knows what they believe and WHY they believe it!)

We discuss the latest resources we are studying in "Apologetics", which rzim.org describes as:

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, "apologetics" is the "formal argumentation in defense of something, such as a position or system."  A Christian "apologetic" is not an apology as we usually use the term, that is, to say you are sorry for something.  An apologetics ministry does just the opposite.  We use the word "apology" in the sense that we give a defense of the Christian faith.  We answer people's questions about the truth of the Gospel.  To the questions of the skeptic and the believer we offer an apologetic - we give an answer - to the counterclaims of secularism and other worldviews.  We try to demonstrate that the claims of Jesus are true and make sense intellectually, and offer the best picture of our world and of reality.

...and we talk about everything from the weather to what is happening in our lives socially, academically, spiritually, and mentally (issues, stress, etc.)

My family brings joy to my life and I am very thankful for them!  They keep me accountable and I cherish the friendships I have with each of them.

What do you like most about times spent with your family?  What are a few of your favorite ways to spend time together?

We gave up tv a number of years ago. It's made it much easier to keep a clean mind for all of us.

We like to read and sing together.

Laura,

Reading and singing together as a family is a delightful and nice way to spend time!

I certainly agree that not filling our minds with the perversity of television will keep our minds clean!
