To Be Pro-Porn Is to Be Anti-Sex

One reason I hate pornography is because it takes the sacred and makes it obscene.

Biblically speaking, sex is a "holy joy" to be shared between a husband and wife whose monogamous relationship is an example to the world of Christ's relationship with His bride, the church, and pornography subverts from this holy pleasure and God honoring experience by weakening its potential and turning it into nothing more than a way to enjoy brief orgasm.

It is pathetic the way that so many are flocking to pornography and justifying their consumption of this filth in the name of loving sex. Really? Being pro-porn is being anti-sex. Period. Porn being realistic of sex is like the fakest junk food being compared to the healthiest feast. The fact that viewing porn is pleasurable is beside the point. Not everything that brings pleasure is beneficial or worth giving our time to. For example, the prospect of earning a lot of money by gambling seems to be a worthwhile pursuit for some, while it not only doesn't guarantee winning anything but you lose in the process and form a habit that shows weakness in character and an unwillingness to work hard to earn a good salary.

In regards to sin, my teenage brother said, "One act of selfishness brings on so many unwarranted and unneeded problems."

...to which I might add how necessary it is to be wise with what we do in secret or dwell on. All sin has a starting point and it should make us all shudder to realize how easily our hearts deceive us into thinking that just a little more won't harm or indulging in anything without accountability and a tender conscience before God is okay. My former Pastor once said "God would rather see you in a hospital bed than living in sin" and over time I have come to believe this is precisely accurate of God always having our best in mind.

It is so wrong that pornography can be accessed from any device, in secret, for free, away from the knowledge of others. What a corrupting lie! What a waste of time! What a brilliant way to keep us away from our God, our families, and our responsibilities! What a good way to remain infantile and to hinder growth relationally, spiritually, financially, and in terms of purity.

Do you realize what pornography is?

  • The observance of broken people in their most intimate state for the gawking eyes and (if truth were told) repulsive hearts of people who shout for the inhumane to take place to our fellow man so we have masturbatory material we can get ourselves off to
  • It causes lustful glares of a hungry audience who have no shame in what they search for

What are we thinking? What am I thinking? What are you thinking when planning when and how you can watch the degradation and abuse of precious people made in the image of God all so you can touch yourself isolated behind a screen and feel good for a few moments?

The scary part about porn is the effects it leaves behind on our attractions and desires. It isn't a rare instance to fantasize about what we see in porn and so wish to fulfill these desires that it consumes our thoughts and distorts the way we see everyone; from our neighbors to teachers, fellow students or sadly even children or youth.

Fellow believer, what shall you say to God on the day you stand before Him if by your own selfish choices day by day or hour by hour you allowed your life to be overtaken by watching other people have sex and this rendered you both separated from God in unholiness and useless & ineffective for the Kingdom of God? What are you thinking when you remember your bleeding Savior who gave His life as the substitute for your sin and the salvation you take for granted? Is masturbation and sitting alone watching other people engage in acts you desire really worth displeasing God and being separated from Him for eternity because you adamantly refused to get serious about the sin in your life and would rather serve God halfheartedly than part ways with what is actually destroying you (both in this life and in the next if you do not fully repent)?

I understand the temptation. I truly do. And unless I guard my heart diligently, thoughts become actions and I am in the same position as some of you regarding addiction. This isn't to say we will ever attain being sinless if we just simply guard our hearts. Rather, living in a wretched world where the most heinous is not only treasured but also celebrated means that we must strive to the best of our ability (even to the point of discomfort) to stay away from and not allow easy access to what keeps us trapped and causes us to stumble.

Only you know where your heart is in regards to God and whether you love your sin more than your Savior. Please choose wisely and realize how brief this life is and how only knowing Christ and having lived for Him genuinely will matter on the day we stand before Him.
