The Lewd Become Pure...

What do you wrestle with most lately?  The desire to be in a relationship?  The longing to be seen as attractive among those who see you on a day by day basis?  The weight of providing for your family or kid(s) working at a job that doesn't pay very much?  Sin that you cannot overcome on your own?  Guilt from the past that you can't seem to shake?

We all have struggles, strongholds, problems, and temptations that creep up from time to time or may be a regular part of our lives because we don't quite know how to deal with them.

The Lord is amazing because no matter our past, no matter our current strongholds, and no matter the consequences we may very well be suffering due to our past choices and mistakes...we can be assured that through Christ and the salvation He accomplished on our behalf, God makes us a new creature in Him (Second Corinthians 5: 17) and causes all things to work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8: 28).

God can take our brokenness, our past hurts and pains, our current issues and that which holds us captive and bring restoration, healing, deliverance, and cleansing to us.  By healing, I mean, making us whole again.  Like the precious song that says, "What can wash away my sin?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus.  What can make me whole again?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus."

Wholeness, purity, restoration, deliverance, forgiveness, and a new heart, new longings, new desires, and a newfound interest in righteousness and a transformation and hatred for all that is sinful, wrong, and displeasing in God's sight the Lord is able to bring about in our lives - yes, even for you.

God is able to bring good out of any situation.  God is able to restore any relationship.  God is able to rebuild trust between a couple where adultery may have taken place.  God is able to deliver us from finding impurity so alluring and He is able to give us hearts that long to live in a manner worthy of Him.  God is able to deliver people of homosexuality (both outward actions, masturbation when thinking of the same gender, and same sex attraction).

Like A. W. Tozer in "The Knowledge of the Holy" expounds:

...yet much as we may deplore the lack of stability in all earthly things, in a fallen world such as this the very ability to change is a golden treasure, a gift from God of such fabulous worth as to call for constant thanksgiving.  For human beings the whole possibility of redemption lies in their ability to change.  To move across from one sort of person to another is the essence of repentance: the liar becomes truthful, the thief honest, the lewd pure, the proud humble.  The whole moral texture of the life is altered.  The thoughts, the desires, the affections are transformed, and the man is no longer what he had been before.  So radical is this change that the apostle calls the man that used to be "the old man" and the man that now is "the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."

Yet the change is deeper and more basic than any external acts can reveal, for it includes also the reception of life of another and higher quality.  The old man, even at his best, possesses only the life of Adam: the new man has the life of God.  And this is more than a mere manner of speaking; it is quite literally true.  When God infuses eternal life into the spirit of a man, the man becomes a member of a new and higher order of being.

I hope this blog post has been an encouragement to readers of the Emma Joy blog!  It has certainly been helpful for me to ponder, be thankful for, rejoice in, and write as I am reminded of God's ability to change the human heart!
