Shame or Freedom?

Walking in God's ways, living according to His word, seeking after the Lord daily, obeying Him, walking in repentance, and staying focused on the Lord brings...

Purity.  Wholeness.  Cleansing.  Freedom.  Integrity.  Joy.

Trying to be the captain of our own lives, seeking our own gratification through acts such as masturbation or viewing pornography, and living in sin (there are a variety of sins) brings...

Shame.  Regret.  Hiding.  Fear of being found out.  Uncleanness.  Guilt.  Loneliness.

Why do we run to and play in muddy waters instead of staying near the cleanest and most beautiful waterfall of God's word and serving Him?

Psalm 51

A list of great quotes:

"Proverbs:  Living righteously is not only good and God-honoring, it’s also smart because you avoid the unpleasant consequences of evil."  Greg Koukl

"Following Jesus Christ means trading your life for His. That's when everything changes. You must be dead to yourself & alive in Christ."  Nabeel Qureshi

" Lust says, "What can you do for me?" Love says, "What can I do for you?" "  Timothy Keller

"Our yesterdays hold broken and irreversible things for us.  It is true that we have lost opportunities that will never return, but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive thoughtfulness for the future.  Let the past rest, but let it rest in the sweet embrace of Christ.  Leave the broken, irreversible past in His hands, and step out into the invincible future with Him."  Oswald Chambers

"The love of God working in me causes me to hate, with the Holy Spirit's hatred for sin, anything that is not in keeping with God's holiness."  Oswald Chambers

"However strong a castle may be, if a treacherous party resides inside (ready to betray at the first opportunity possible), the castle cannot be kept safe from the enemy.  Traitors occupy our own hearts, ready to side with every temptation and to surrender to them all."  John Owen

"Holiness is the habit of being of one mind with God, according as we find His mind described in Scripture.  It is the habit of agreeing in God's judgment, hating what He hates, loving what He loves, and measuring everything in this world by the standard of His word."  J.C. Ryle

"Praying and sinning will never live together in the same heart.  Prayer will consume sin, or sin will choke prayer."  J.C. Ryle

"It costs something to be a true Christian.  It will cost us our sins, our self-righteousness, our ease and our worldliness."  J.C. Ryle

"Do nothing that you would not like God to see.  Say nothing you would not like God to hear.  Write nothing you would not like God to read.  Go no place where you would not like God to find you.  Read no book of which you would not like God to say, 'Show it to Me.'  Never spend your time in such a way that you would not like to have God say, 'What are you doing?' "  J.C. Ryle
